Cambridge Vertical Readings in Dante's Comedy

Author: Anne Leone

Italian Studies at Notre Dame is participating in a four year long workshop and lecture program, Cambridge Vertical Readings in Dante's Comedy, organized by the Department of Italian at the University of Cambridge.

A team of scholars from the UK and abroad deliver public lectures that explore "vertical" connections between cantos of the same number in Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso. Three Italian professors from Notre Dame -- Vittorio Montemaggi, Zygmunt G. Baranski and Christian Moevs -- have presented lectures on the "Threes," the "Nines" and the "Twelves," respectively. These lectures, and the others in the series, may be viewed online as they become available.

Notre Dame also participates in the workshops, which take place via teleconference with scholars and students from the universities of Leeds and Cambridge, that accompany and precede the lectures. Information on how to participate in the workshops at Notre Dame may be found on the Italian Studies website.
