Rome, the capital of the most powerful empire of antiquity, is today an incomparable condensation of historical stratifications. This permanence, together with the pride of a past that gratifies and exalts it, fortifies the base of an inexplicable process. The phases of the past, due to their force, emerge again and again throughout time to reconquer the centrality in Rome’s culture, in its art, and, most spectacularly, in its architecture.
