Visiting Scholars
Italian Studies at Notre Dame occasionally invites distinguished scholars in the field to join us for a semester or an academic year. Opportunities for visiting professorships include:
Ravarino Visiting Distinguished Professor in Dante and Italian Studies
Frequently, a different internationally renowned senior scholar is invited to teach two courses, at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Recent Visiting Professors include Zygmunt BaraĆski and Piero Boitani.
Visiting Italian Fulbright Scholar
Each academic year a leading Italian scholar is invited to Notre Dame to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Italian literature and culture. Recent Visiting Scholars include Andrea Simoncini and Mauro Pala.
Nanovic Grants & Fellowships
Since its founding in the early 1990s, the Nanovic Institute for European Studies has supported undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty through grants and fellowships. The Nanovic fosters interdisciplinary research by connecting students and faculty to an increasingly interdisciplinary and international community of scholars. Through financial and intellectual support, the Nanovic our community to extraordinary academic opportunities while encouraging the European Studies culture at Notre Dame.
The Devers Program in Dante Studies supports an annual program of grants and fellowships for graduate students and faculty:

Devers Travel Grant — Supports Notre Dame graduate students engaging in research related to Dante Studies and other areas in Italian Studies.

Devers Research and Teaching Grant — For Notre Dame faculty engaged in research and/or teaching Dante across the Humanities.
- Travel to Collections — Sponsors faculty and advanced graduate students from other institutions whose research would benefit from on-site access to Italian Studies related collections at the University of Notre Dame, including the John A. Zahm Dante Collection and the Ambrosiana Archive.
