The Center for Italian Studies is pleased to announce that a presentation of the recently published book Joseph A. Buttigieg e la traduzione del prigioniero (Mimesis, 2022) will be hosted virtually by the Fondazione Gramsci. The volume gathers essays focusing on Joseph A. Buttgieg’s groundbreaking work as editor and translator of Antonio Gramsci’s seminal Prison Notebooks

Formerly a Professor of English at the University Notre Dame and founding member of the International Gramsci Society, Buttigieg, who passed away in 2019, published numerous articles, essays, and books on topics ranging from the aesthetics of James Joyce to the development of civil society. At Notre Dame, he held many leadership and administrative roles, including chair of the Department of English, director of the London program, and director of the Hesburgh-Yusko Scholars program. He was also steering committee co-chair of the original interdisciplinary program in Italian Studies at Notre Dame.

The volume is edited by Enrico Terrinoni, Professor of English Literature at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia and Affiliate of the Center for Italian Studies, and Salvatore Cingari, Professor of History of Political Doctrines at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia.
